...i'm afraid to announce...
...that I *think* my loyality to Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice has "shifted"!!!
Yes, I know...the die-hard P&P fan I am...it is almost blaphemous isn't it! But what can I say, I discovered BBC's 2004 version of Elizabeth Gaskell's North and South last week. And I have to say that even though both take place in the same time period and the storylines are similar, I REALLY like this one.

Now...I haven't made a final decision yet because I have yet to read North and South (which I plan to this summer). Not like anyone is MAKING me choose between the two either. But you know me-the period drama hopeless romantic, have to know the movie/story will end well first, reads the last few pages of a book first-I choose to live my life under such extremes!
I love the "texture" of this movie. The characters feel so developed and thick. Where Elizabeth Bennet is stubborn, intelligent, and assertive, Margaret Hale (the heroine of North and South) is all that and BLUNT. It's awesome watching her defend the injustices done upon humanity, not just the injustices of women at that time.

Now I can't really say that Richard Armitage (Mr. Thorthon) surpasses Colin Firth (Mr. Darcy) in acting or in looks. I always thought Colin Firth's attraction comes from his character rather than his looks. Richard Armitage and his character also has a lot of intensity and feeling. ::sigh and swoon:: =)
